What are Micronutrients & Anti-oxidants?

Micronutrients are specific vitamins and minerals the body needs for optimal health. They are essential for a number of important functions including growth and development in children, energy production, immune function, as well as skin, bone and brain health. Unfortunately, deficiencies in these key nutrients aect more than 2 billion people worldwide.

Our modern, highly-processed diet is often the cause for deficiencies as it is lacking most of the key micronutrients. Additionally, chronic stress, poor gut health, certain medications, chronic disease(s), as well as the natural aging process can influence our ability to absorb the necessary micronutrients and antioxidants from the foods we eat. Over time, deficiencies can lead to numerous health concerns.

Symptoms associated with deficiencies

Symptoms associated with various deficiencies can overlap. Some common signs include: fatigue, red gums, easy bruising and bleeding, joint pain, tingling in hands and feet, anemia (low blood cell count that carries oxygen), impaired immune function, poor bone health, reduced collagen production in the skin, dry hair and brittle nails.

How to screen for deficiencies

Arrive at VitalLife for a blood draw in the morning after an 10 to 12 hour fast (water is fine). Our on-site laboratory will determine your current levels of the most important micronutrients and antioxidants. Results are typically available within 12 hours.

What can I expect?

You will receive a detailed summary of your current micronutrient/anti-oxidant levels. If deficiencies are present recommendations may include supplements, medications or lifestyle alterations. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to ensure symptom relief and correction of any deficiencies.
