Biological Age Testing
Aging is the process of damage accumulation spread across decades. Aging process develops around after 20 years old to everyone. Due to cross-individual differences in genetics, lifestyle such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, smoking and alcoholic drinking , stress, physical health, mental health and medical history, each person accrues aging-related damage at a different rate. While chronological age determined by ones date of birth is a useful proxy for the amount of this type of damage, it fails to capture the variability in the true, biological aging rate.
Biological age may be understood as a golden standard of the aging process developed by measuring its molecular footprints. Expressed in the same units as chronological age, years, it offers a more personalized approach to longevity. While one cannot reverse the time to decrease their chronological age, it is absolutely possible to reduce the biological age and become a younger version of oneself.
Our biological age can be assessed in two important categories.
First method
BloodAge is Deep Longevitys aging clock that measures biological age based on panel of more than 40 markers from standard blood tests. In addition to biological age calculation, the clock also reveals its main contributors and recommends solutions to reduce the aging rate. BloodAge Clock looks at the internal state of your body to give a more accurate representation of your true age. This information can be used to make lifestyle and healthcare decisions that can help you age healthier and live longer.
BloodAge is developed to assist healthcare professionals provide personalized care and advice to their patients. Physicians may employ BloodAge to provide patients with a unique longevity-focused perspective on their health situation.
Second method
By the method of measuring our epigenetic clock, such as the Dunedin PACE Epigenetic clock, the method is used to calculate the age of cells, tissues and organs in the human body. This method is measuring the rate of aging, or simply put, how fast or slow our body deteriorates.
It measures the level and changes of DNA methylation which can provide information both rate of aging and biological age. Methyl groups are small chemical molecules that can attach to our DNA.
DNA regions which are covered with methyl groups, the less active regions will be. DNA methylation turns off genes. Sometimes DNA methylation also can turn on our genes because the genome that turn off genes have been methylated.
Of course, this result may have a negative effect on people's health. For example, DNA methylation may stimulate the expression of oncogene that cause cancer or stimulate pro-inflammatory gene so inflammation is excess in our body. If the test result indicates high rate of aging, people with faster rate of aging will have an increased risk of dying and risk of chronic diseases (Chronic diseases) such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and heart disease, emphysema, chronic kidneys disease and cancers. Factors that affect the speed rate of aging to be higher, it may be the result of accumulated stress since childhood to adolescence. For example, children or teenagers from families with low socioeconomic status may have a higher rate of aging, unhealthy will accelerate your pace of aging; pro-longevity lifestyles will slow it down.
