Best Practices for Treating Skin Laxity
Skin Treatment Services at VitalLife Scientific Wellness Center
We all age. It is just how life works. And as we age we have to learn to deal with and treat a number of natural consequences of the aging process. One of the most common results of aging when it comes to our appearance is skin laxity.

What Is Skin Laxity and How Does It Happen?
Have you ever noticed loose and crepey-looking skin on your face and body? That is skin laxity – the sagging skin found on the face and body that becomes more pronounced as we age. As the experts at the skin treatment services at VitalLife Scientific Wellness Center, we see it all the time. However, there are a number of factors besides aging that can result in skin laxity both intrinsic and extrinsic, including genetics, diet, lifestyle, sun exposure, hormones, stress, and smoking to name a few. There are two vital components to the skin’s structure that affect skin laxity: collagen and elastin. As we age, we begin to lose these two key components, and our skin begins to lose elasticity, resulting in loose or sagging skin.
Diet plays a major role in the general health of our skin. A balanced diet consisting of foods such as dark green vegetables, beans, red fruits, essential fatty acids, and fruits high in vitamin C can significantly increase a person’s ability to produce new collagen.
What Age Is Best to Treat Skin Laxity
As mentioned above, genetics play a huge role in collagen production and skin laxity. We all know those people who don’t look a day over 30 despite the fact that they are well over. Some of it is just their genetics. Some people age more slowly than others. But this is precisely why we cannot necessarily pin down the best age to treat skin laxity. It is not so much somebody’s chronological age as much as how they take care of themselves and their skin, in addition to all of the other factors mentioned above. Patients in their 30s and 40s, statistically speaking, see better overall results when preventing and treating skin laxity; however, people in their 50s and 60’s can still see good results if they have physiologically healthy skin.
Women and men over the age of 40 are typically good candidates for treatment when wanting to refresh their face and body without surgery, but we have also seen dramatic results in patients up to age 70. After age 70, individual results will vary, as the body becomes less able to produce new collagen.
